After qualifying for the combat team in the team's training camps , he played 35 games in the 2003/04 season before he was sent to the Houston Eros farm team , who played in the American Hockey League . In his 35 NHL games, he scored four goals and five assists.

For the 2005/06 season he signed a one-year contract with Södertälje SK from the top Swedish division, the Elitserien . For the 2006/07 season , those responsible for the Hamburg Freezers were able to convince him of a renewed commitment in the German Ice Hockey League. During his time in Hamburg in 2007 he was nominated for the second time for the DEG All Star Game. From the 2008/09 season until the end of his career in spring 2012, Brandner was again involved with the KAC, with which he won his second Austrian championship title in 2009.
