Ice Hockey World Championship 1999

The International Ice Hockey Federation organized the 63rd Ice Hockey World Championships in 1999 .

Tournaments at a glance

Men's

The 63rd men's world championship was held as follows:

A World Championship: 1. May bis 16th May in Oslo , Hamar and Lillehammer ( Norway )
B World Cup: 8. April bis 17th April in Odense and Rødovre ( Denmark )
C World Cup: 22. March bis 28. March in Eindhoven and Tilburg ( Netherlands )
D World Cup: 14. April bis 20th April in Krugersdorp ( South Africa )

Again 40 teams took part in the men's world championships.

Women

The 5th Women's World Cup was held at the following locations:

A World Championship: 8. March bis 14. March in Espoo and Vantaa ( Finland )
B World Cup: 21st March bis 28. March in Colmar ( France )

A total of 16 teams took part in the women's tournaments. In addition, various qualification tournaments were held, in which a further six women's national teams took part.

Juniors

The 23rd U20 Junior World Championships took place at the following locations:

Junior A World Championship: December 26, 1998 to January 5, 1999 in Winnipeg ( Canada )
Junior B World Championship: December 27, 1998 to January 3, 1999 in Székesfehérvár and Dunaújváros ( Hungary )
Junior C World Championship: December 30, 1998 to January 3, 1999 in Elektrėnai and Kaunas ( Lithuania )
Junior D World Championship: December 29, 1998 to January 4, 1999 in Novi Sad ( Yugoslavia ).

A total of 34 teams again took part in these Junior World Championships.

For the first time this year, a U18 Junior World Championship was held. It was an extension of the U18 Junior European Championship, which had been held since 1977, by non-European teams. The tournaments took place in the following locations:

Junior A Championship: 8. April bis 18th April in Fussen and Kaufbeuren ( Germany )
Junior B Championship: 5. April bis 11. April in Pralognan , Méribel and Courchevel ( France )
Europe Division I: 16th March bis 20th March in Bucharest ( Romania )
Europe Division II: 1. March bis 7. March in Sofia ( Bulgaria )
Asia Division I: 10. February bis 13. February in Nikko ( Japan )
Asia Division II: 20th March bis 25. March in Pyongyang ( North Korea )
