The Altiport Courchevel

Courchevel is the name of a winter sports area in the Savoie department in the French Alps . Together with Méribel , Les Menuires and Val Thorens, it forms the Trois Vallées ski area .

Courchevel consists of three districts, which were originally named after their altitude and were given new names in 2011: Courchevel 1550 (since 2011: Courchevel Village ), Courchevel 1650 (since 2011: Courchevel Moriond ) and Courchevel 1850 (since 2011: Courchevel ).

Airfield

South of the tallest development is Courchevel Airfield ( Altiport , ICAO code LFLJ) at an altitude of 2007  m (6584 feet ) with a short runway of 537 m (1762 feet) . In addition to the gradient, which is not unusual for Altiports, the runway is bent vertically and has a gradient of 18.66% on the steeper section . Landing is uphill, starting downhill, each over an abyss.

Ski jumping Grand Prix

The Tremplin du Praz ski jumping facility in Courchevel is traditionally the venue for the Summer Grand Prix in ski jumping.

Alpine skiing

Courchevel is the venue for various ski races. In 2017, Méribel applied for the Alpine World Ski Championships 2023 .

Tour de France

As part of the Tour de France , Courchevel was a stage destination three times and the starting point again on the following stage. 1997 won Richard Virenque , 2000 Marco Pantani and 2005 Alejandro Valverde .

The ascent of the 1st category begins in La Perrière and leads over a length of 21.8 kilometers with an altitude of 1264 meters to the destination at an altitude of 2004 meters above sea level, which corresponds to an average gradient of 6.3 percent.

Trivia

The German racing driver Michael Schumacher owns a chalet in Courchevel where he spent his winter holidays. He had a life-threatening accident on December 29, 2013 in the nearby ski resort of Méribel .

In the tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege - published in 2015 - the map "Chalet" plays on a weekend seat from which it is named in the winter mountains of Courchevel.

The main location for the film The Master Thief and His Treasures (2017) is Courchevel.
