Ice Hockey World Championship 1996
The International Ice Hockey Federation organized in 1996 the 60th World Ice Hockey Championships .
Tournaments at a glance
The 60th Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in 1996 was played in a total of four tournaments:
- A World Championship: April 21 to May 5 in Vienna ( Austria )
- B World Cup: 10. April bis 20th April in Eindhoven ( Netherlands )
- C World Cup: 22. March bis 31 March in Jesenice and Bled ( Slovenia )
- D World Cup: 25. March bis 31 March in Kaunas and Elektrėnai ( Lithuania )
A total of 36 teams took part in these world championships as well as three other teams who failed to qualify for the D group .
The 20th Ice Hockey World Championship for Juniors 1996 (U20) took place at the following locations:
- Junior A World Championship: December 26, 1995 to January 5, 1996 in Boston ( USA )
- Junior B World Championship: December 28, 1995 to January 4, 1996 in Sosnowiec , Tychy ( Poland )
- Junior C World Championship: December 30, 1995 to January 3, 1996 in Jesenice , Bled , Kranj ( Slovenia )
- Junior D World Championship: December 31, 1995 to January 4, 1996 in Tallinn ( Estonia ).
A total of 30 teams registered for this Junior World Championship.
A women's ice hockey world championship was not held this year, contrary to the previous series (every two years) .
