from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The games of the 20th Junior A World Championship in 1996 took place from December 26, 1995 to January 5, 1996 in Boston , USA . The B group was played in Sosnowiec and Tychy , Poland , the C group in Jesenice , Bled and Kranj , Slovenia and the D group in Tallinn , Estonia .

A world championship

There were some innovations this year: The A group played for the first time with ten teams and the C2 group was renamed the D group as in the senior division. Canada became world champions for the ninth time, drawing level with the USSR / Russia .

mode

Male players under the age of 20 (U-20) were allowed. Ten teams took part, divided into two groups of five teams each. Each team played once against each group opponent. Then the last two in each group played the only relegated to the B World Championship. The three best teams per group played the world championship title in the playoffs, with the two group winners receiving a bye for the semifinals.
