Andrei Alexandrowitsch Petrakow ( Russian Андрей Александрович Петраков ; born April 26, 1976 in Sverdlovsk , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ; † October 21, 2013 ) was a Russian ice hockey player . During his active time from 1992 to 2007 he was under contract for HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Russian Super League .

Career

Andrei Petrakow began his career as a hockey player with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg , for which he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 1992/93 season . After relegation in 1995 to the second-rate Wysschaja Liga , the attacker and his team managed to get back up in the 1995/96 season. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the fourth round as a total of 97th player from the St. Louis Blues , for which he never played. Instead, he began the 1996/97 season again at Yekaterinburg, which has since been renamed Dinamo-Energija before moving to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the season . In the following season, the left shooter ran parallel for Metallurg and their league rivals ZSK WWS Samara and was runner-up and cup winner at the end of the season. Following this success, the Blues ordered the Russians to North America, where he worked for their farm teams at the beginning of the 1998/99 season , the Worcester IceCats from the American Hockey League , Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League and Muskegon Fury from the United Hockey League on.

He then returned to Russia, where he spent the following three seasons at HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk , with whom he was Russian champion in 1999 and 2001 respectively . He also won the European Hockey League with his team in 1999 and 2000 . From 2001 to 2005 Petrakow was exclusively in the second-rate Wysschaja Liga under contract, in which he was active for various teams, before he played for HC Oceláři Třinec and HC Znojemští Orli in the Czech extra league in the 2005/06 season . The winger ended his career following the 2006/07 season after he had previously played for the Russian second division side Sauralje Kurgan and Disel Pensa and for Metallurg Novokuznetsk from the super league.

Petrakow later worked as a youth coach at Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg .
