The ZSK WWS Samara ( Russian ЦСК ВВС Самара ; Central Sports Club of the Samara Air Force ) is a Russian ice hockey club from Samara founded in 1950 . Since 2017 he has been participating in Russia's multinational second division, the Vysschaya Hockey League . The club's home games are played in the ZSK WWS Sportpalast with a capacity of 3,000 .

history

The club was founded in 1950 from the Stalinwerke Samara (now known as Progress ) as Mayak Kuibyshev and initially played on a regional level from 1956. At the same time there was an army club in what was then Kuibyshev, the SKA Kuibyshev, which between 1960 and 1979 mainly participated in the second division, the Pervaya League.

Mayak Kuibyshev succeeded in 1966 promotion to the third class B and remained in this division until 1970. In 1973, the team has been included in this league again and managed at the end of the 1973/74 season promotion to the second league, the class A . There the club was only able to hold a game year before returning to Class B. 1976 to 1979 Mayak played again in class A , before the club relegated together with local rivals SKA Kuibyshev.

In 1980 the SKA Kuibyshev was effectively dissolved because the Red Army no longer supported it - at the same time Mayak Kuibyshev managed to move up to Class A again and was able to hold this division until 1991. In the early 1990s, Mayak lost support from local industries.

In 1992 the merger with the former SKA Kuibyschew followed to form today's ZSK WWS Samara. In 1993 and 1994 the ZSK was champion of the second division of Russia, the Wysschaja Liga, and was also included in 1994 as part of an increase in the first division, the international hockey league . Until 2000 , the club remained in the top division before relegating to the second division.

Between 2000 and 2010, the club's first team played in the central division of the Vysschaya League and was the farm team of HK Lada Tolyatti . In the course of the league reform of the second division, the ZSK had to relegate to the third division, the Perwaja League, for financial reasons. The ZSK WWS played there until 2017, before it was selected again by HK Lada Tolyatti as the farm team and, with the support of the latter, was accepted into the Wysschaja Hockey League . Due to the renovation work on the ZSK WWS Sports Palace , the club's home games in the 2017/18 season will be played in the Kristall Gazprom Sports Palace.
