The ZSK WWS Samara ( Russian ЦСК ВВС-Самара , Central Sports Club of the Air Force ) is a former professional basketball club of the Superleague Russia . The club comes from Samara , formerly Kuibyshev, in Russia.
history
ZSK WWS Samara was formed in 2002 by order of the governor of the Samara region as a union of the two clubs ZSK WWS Samara and BK Samara. The club only existed for a few years. The greatest success was winning the FIBA EuroCup Challenge 2007. At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, the Kub filed for bankruptcy and ended its existence. The Krasnye Krylja Samara club, which now exists in Samara, is not a legal successor to the ZSK WWS Samara.
Predecessor BK Samara
One of the predecessors of the ZSK WWS Samara, the BK Samara was founded in 1976 in Tolyatti as "AZOT". In 1977 the company moved to Samara and was renamed “Stroitel” ( Russian Строитель for construction workers). In 1981 he was promoted to the highest Russian league. The greatest success was second place in the 1992 Russian championship behind CSKA . In 1994 the name was changed to "BK Samara"
Predecessor ZSK WWS
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , SKA Alma-Ata, two times fourth-placed in the Soviet championship, moved from Alma-Ata in Kazakhstan to Samara in 1992 . There the club was renamed ZSK WWS and immediately got the right to start in the highest Russian league. So Samara was represented with two clubs in this class. In 1994 and 1995 ZSK VVS reached third place in the Soviet championship with Valeri Tichonenko in his ranks. At the end of the 1996/97 season, the club had to file for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties.
