Sergei Vladimirovich Gusew ( Russian Гусев Сергей Владимирович ; born July 31, 1975 in Nizhny Tagil , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player . In the 2017/18 season he was assistant coach at HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk .
Career
Sergei Gusew began his career as a hockey player at ZSK VVS Samara , for which he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 1994/95 season . He was then selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as a total of 69th player by the Dallas Stars . First, however, he played for two years for their farm team , the Michigan K-Wings from the International Hockey League . From 1997 to 1999, the defender was also on the ice for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League before he was given to the Tampa Bay Lightning , for which he played in the NHL until 2001.
The left shooter then returned to his Russian homeland, where he was signed by Severstal Tscherepowez , with whom he was runner-up in the 2002/03 season. In the summer of 2004 Gussew was signed by the then reigning champion HK Awangard Omsk , with whom he won the IIHF European Champions Cup in 2005, after he and his team had prevailed in the final against Kärpät Oulu from the Finnish SM-liiga . In the 2005/06 season, the former NHL player moved with his team in the final of the Super League, in which they were subject to Ak Bars Kazan . The national player then moved to SKA Saint Petersburg , for whom he played until the end of the 2010/11 season.
In June 2011, the Russian received a one-year contract with HK Awangard Omsk. After the contract expired, Gusew moved to Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg within the KHL . In November 2015, the defender returned to Omsk. In May 2016, Gusev was signed by HK Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk before he ended his career in 2017 and became an assistant coach at HK Ugra.

For Russia , Gusev took part in the 1995 World Junior Championships , as well as the 2002 , 2003 and 2005 World Championships .
