Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg ( Russian Автомобилист Екатеринбург ) is a Russian ice hockey club from Yekaterinburg, founded in 2006 . The team, which is the unofficial successor to the club Dinamo-Energija Yekaterinburg , which was dissolved in 2007 , plays its home games in the KRK Uralez, which has a capacity of 5,500 . The team has been playing in the Continental Hockey League since 2009 .
history
Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg started playing in the Vysschaya League for the 2006/07 season. Already in the 2007/08 season, the team, which was the only representative from Yekaterinburg after the dissolution of Dinamo-Energija, was one of the top teams in the league and - along with Barys Astana - was one of the two teams from the Vysschaya League in the newly formed Continental Hockey League were added.
Due to financial problems, the club had to forego participation in July 2008, whereupon he was replaced by Chimik Woskressensk , who had been defeated in the playoff final of the 2007/08 season. Awtomobilist therefore remained in the Vysschaya League. There the team reached first place in the Eastern group in the main round, but failed in the playoff quarter-finals at the MHK Krylja Sowetow Moscow . Nevertheless, new financing for the KHL was set up in the course of the season.
Since Voskressensk itself had got into financial difficulties and was excluded from the league, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg took the free place in the KHL again for the 2009/10 season .
From the 2023/24 season, Awtomobilist will play its home games in the UGMK Arena, which has been under construction since 2019 .
