Apple Valley is a city in Dakota County in the US state of Minnesota . It is located about 25 kilometers south of Saint Paul and has around 45,000 inhabitants.

Apple Valley is located in the south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 45.9 square kilometers, of which 1.0 square kilometers is water.
history
The area of what is now Apple Valley was settled by European immigrants in the 1850s. On April 6, 1858, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners established the Union Township . When the commission met again in 1858 and redefined the territorial boundaries, the new Lebanon Township was founded. The first community meeting took place on May 11, 1858. In 1881 there were 252 residents in the township .
In the 1950s the township began to develop into a city. After the number of inhabitants in 1960 was 585, new building areas were designated and developed. In 1968 a vote was taken to found a village called Apple Village . On January 1, 1969, the new mayor and the four councilors began their work. In 1974 Apple Valley received city rights . As a suburb of the Twin Cities, Apple Valley developed into one of the fastest growing cities in Minnesota, which only weakened in the 1990s due to the dwindling construction areas.

Attractions
- Opened in 1978, the Minnesota Zoo is a zoological garden with around 2,200 animals. There is also an IMAX cinema on the premises of the zoo .

According to the 2000 census, Apple Valley has 45,527 people in 16,344 households and 12,405 families. The population density is 368.2 inhabitants per km². Racially, the population is made up of around 92 percent white population and smaller minorities.

In relation to the entire city, the population is composed of 29.7% residents under 18 years of age, 7.2% between 18 and 24 years of age, 33.1% between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.4% between 45 and 64 years of age 5.5% over 65 years. The median is 34 years. About 51% of the population is female.
The median income of a household is USD 69,752 and that of a family is USD 79,335. The per capita income is $ 29,477. About 2.1% of the population and 1.1% of families live below the poverty line.
