The 1985 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship was the ninth edition of the World Championship in the under-20 age group (U20) by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. Canada became Junior World Champions for the second time since 1982 .
The A World Championship took place from December 23, 1984 to January 1, 1985 in the Finnish cities of Vantaa , Helsinki and Turku . The B World Championship was played from March 15 to 24, 1985. For the first time a tournament of the Junior World Championship took place in Asia, in Sapporo in Japan . Group C was played in Belgium from February 22nd to 27th, 1985 . A total of 21 countries took part in the three tournaments.
World Championship
The World Cup took place in the Finnish cities of Vantaa , Helsinki and Turku . The Canadian team became junior world champions . The team from Poland was relegated and replaced by promoted Switzerland .

Players under 20 years of age (U-20) were allowed. Eight teams took part, each of which competed once against each group opponent in a common group. World champion became the group winner. The last was relegated to the B World Championship.
