The juniors' ice hockey world championship in 1983 was the seventh edition of the world championship in the under-20 age group (U20) by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The Soviet Union team became junior world champions for the fifth time .

The A-World Championship took place from December 26, 1982 to January 4, 1983 in Leningrad , Soviet Union . The B World Championship was held from March 14th to 20th, 1983 in Anglet , France . For the first time a C-group was played, it was played from March 3rd to 9th 1983 in Bucharest , Romania . A total of 20 teams took part in the tournaments.

World Championship

The world championship took place in the Soviet city ​​of Leningrad . U20 world champion became the host team of the USSR . The team from Norway was relegated and replaced by promoted Switzerland .

mode

Players under 20 years of age (U-20) were allowed. Eight teams took part, each of which competed once against each group opponent in a common group. World champion became the group winner. The last was relegated to the B World Championship.
