The juniors' ice hockey world championship in 1982 was the sixth staging of the world championship in the under-20 age group (U20) by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. Team Canada became Junior World Champion for the first time .

The A World Championship was held from December 22, 1981 to January 2, 1982 in the United States and Canada . The B World Championship was held from March 16 to 20, 1982 in Heerenveen in the Netherlands . As in previous years, a total of 16 teams took part, with Japan for the first time a team from outside Europe and North America .

World Championship

The World Cup took place in a total of twelve US and three Canadian cities. The majority of the venues were in the US state of Minnesota , where 23 of the 28 games were played. Five games took place in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario . The Canadian team became junior world champions for the first time . The team from Switzerland was relegated and replaced by promoted Norway .

mode

Players under 20 years of age (U-20) were allowed. Eight teams took part, each of which competed once against each group opponent in a common group. World champion became the group winner. The last was relegated to the B World Championship.
