Petri Kalevi Skriko (born March 12, 1962 in Lappeenranta ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player and current coach . During his career he played for the Vancouver Canucks , Boston Bruins , Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League , and SaiPa Lappeenranta and Kiekko-Espoo in the Finnish SM-liiga .
Career
Skriko began his career in his hometown with SaiPa Lappeenranta in the SM-liiga , where he played from 1979 to 1984. For the 1984/85 season , the attacking player moved to the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks , who had selected him in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round in 157th place.
He stayed in Vancouver for seven seasons. He managed to break the 30-goal mark four times. He had his best playing time in the 1985/86 season when he got a total of 78 points. During the 1990/91 season , the Canucks transferred him to the Boston Bruins after he had only eight points in 20 games. There the Finn played significantly better than last time in Vancouver and he advanced with the team to the final of the Eastern Conference . Shortly after the beginning of the 1991/92 season , Skriko left the Bruins. He moved to the Winnipeg Jets in an exchange deal , for which he only played 15 games. In the summer of 1992 he then signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent . There he also appeared in only 17 games and left the franchise during the current season. Skriko returned to Finland and played the remainder of the 1992/93 season with Kiekko-Espoo . The winger ended his career from 1993 to 1999 with the Herning Blue Fox in the Danish Superisligaen , where he won four league titles and was also voted Player of the Year twice.
After finishing his career, he took over the post of head coach at Herning and won another championship title in 2001. He then coached his home club SaiPa Lappeenranta for three seasons, where his number 9 is no longer awarded.
