Heikki Leime (born May 7, 1962 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey coach and former professional player. Since September 2017 he has been the head coach of the French Chamonix Hockey Club in the Ligue Magnus .

Player career

Leime's hometown club is TPS Turku . At the end of the 1970s he was called up for the first time in the Finnish junior national team and made his debut in the Finnish first division in the TPS jersey during the 1980/81 season.

In 1981 the Buffalo Sabers secured the rights to glue in the NHL Draft, which was selected by the Sabers in the seventh round at the 143rd position overall. Between 1981 and 1986 he played a total of 136 games in the American Hockey League for the Sabers farm team, the Rochester Americans . He did not succeed in making the leap into the NHL. In 1982 he was part of the AHL championship team of the Americans, but came in that season only on one use.

For the 1986/87 season Leime moved back home, played again for TPS in the following years and became Finnish champions with the team in 1989, 1990 and 1991. After the 1991/92 season, he ended his playing career.

Leime came to 16 caps for Finland, in 1990 he took part in the World Cup.

Trainer and manager career

After retiring as a player, Leime took on managerial roles at TPS Turku between 1992 and 1995 . In 1995 he moved to France and held the post of head coach at HC Caen until 2000 , which he led in 1998 for promotion from the second to the French first division.

In 2000 he left HC Caen and became the head coach of the French national team. In his four-year tenure he was promoted to the A group with the Équipe Tricolore, so that France took part in the 2004 World Cup in the Czech Republic under Leime's leadership. But there the descent had to be accepted.

In the 2004/05 season he coached the French first division club Les Ducs d'Angers and then accepted an offer from the Swiss second division club Lausanne HC the following season . The ways Leimes and the LHC parted in October 2006 as a result of a season opener with five defeats from seven games.

The next month he signed a contract as head coach of another NLB club, HC Sierre . He was released in September 2007 after the team lost the first four games of the 2007/08 season under his leadership.

Leime took over the reins of the French first division team Les Ducs d'Angers in December 2007 and received approval in June 2010, despite an existing contract, after he had received the offer to become head coach at his home club, the Finnish first division club TPS . He was fired from TPS in October 2010. His next stop was again in France's Ligue Magnus : In November 2011, Leime was signed by the Gothiques d'Amiens . After the 2013/14 season, his contract in Amiens ran out.

In December 2014, the Swiss second division EHC Olten Leime signed as head coach. In March 2016 he was released after a 6-1 defeat in the playoff semi-final against HC Ajoie . In mid-September 2017, Leime took up the position of head coach at the French first division club Chamonix.
