October 1918 near the village Pjany boron on the Kama ) was a participant in the October Revolution and Civil War . Nikolai Markin grew up among farmers in his home village . In 1910, when the revolutionary was working in a stationery store, he was jailed for eight months. In 1914 Nikolai Markin was called up for military service. In Kronstadt he was trained as a non-commissioned officer in the Baltic fleet in dealing with sea mines . In 1916 he joined the RSDLP .

Nikolai Markin took part in the February Revolution . As a member of the Bolshevik Kronstadt Committee, he was delegated to the Petrograd Soviet . Trotsky

In Chapter 24 of his memoirs - In Petrograd - Trotsky sets a monument to Markin. His exuberant hymn of praise appears to be meant honestly. Trotsky must speak about Markin, because it was through this fighter that "the October Revolution triumphed". In 1929 Trotsky recounts from the years 1917/1918: “Markin was a sailor in the Baltic Fleet, an artilleryman and a Bolshevik. He hadn't revealed himself straight away. Pushing forward was not in his character. Markin was not a speaker, it was difficult for him to speak. He was also shy and withdrawn - it was the withdrawn strength of the inward-looking force. Markin was made of one piece, made of real material. I had no idea of his existence when he had already taken care of my family. He made the acquaintance of my boys, entertained them with tea and sandwiches in the canteen at Smolny , and generally gave them little pleasures in which those hard times were so poor. He quietly came to inquire whether everything was okay. From the boys ... he learned that we were living in an enemy camp. Markin paid a visit to the porter and house committee, it appears, not alone but with a group of sailors. He probably found very convincing words because everything around us suddenly changed. In our bourgeois house the dictatorship of the proletariat had been established before the October Revolution. Only later did we learn that our children's friend, the sailor in the Baltic Fleet, Markin, had done all of this ... Then the civil war began. Markin plugged the holes, there were plenty of them. Now he established the dictatorship of the proletariat far in the east. Markin commanded a flotilla on the Volga and drove the enemy before him. When I found out that Markin was in a dangerous place, my heart became calmer and warmer. But the hour struck. On the Kama an enemy bullet overtook Nikolai Georgjewitsch Markin and knocked over the firm seaman's legs. "
