The 6th ice hockey world championships of the U18 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2004 in the age group of under-eighteen year olds (U18). Between March 1 and April 18, 2004, a total of 41 national teams took part in the six tournaments of the top division and divisions I to III.

The world champion became the team of Russia for the second time , which defeated the arch-rivals from the United States 3-2 in the final . The German team was able with the victory in Group B of Division I move up to the top division - from which they 2002 had been staying - ensure that Switzerland took first place in Group A of Division I and thus also rose again in Division I. Austria was third in Group A of Division I.

The U18 World Championship was held from April 8th to 18th, 2004 in the Belarusian capital Minsk . The games were played in the Minsk Sports Palace (3,311 seats) and the Minsk Ice Palace with 1,823 seats.

Ten national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two groups of five teams each. Russia secured the world title by beating the United States 3-2 in the final. It was the second title for the Russians.

After the group matches in the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and thirds in the group each play a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals. The fourth and fifth of the group games contest - if the result of the direct encounter from the preliminary round is taken with them - the relegation round and determine two relegated to Division I.
