Daniel Pietta (born December 9, 1986 in Krefeld ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League since 2005 .
Career
DNL and 2nd Bundesliga (2001-2005)
For the 2001/02 season, Daniel Pietta came to the KEV in the German junior league, after he had previously won the championship title with the students, and now formed a row in the Germany-wide junior league with the one year older striker Christian Schlesiger and the same age Martin Schymainski . As the center of this series , the left-handed shooter advanced to one of the best scorers in the league and came in second within the team behind the older Schlesiger with 65 points. The three also formed one of the best storm formations in the league, but had nothing to oppose the physically larger strikers of SC Riessersee , all in their last DNL year, in the play-offs , so that Pietta's successful rookie season after third place in the preliminary round ended with the quarter-finals.
During the 2003/04 season , the Krefeld native was appointed to the DEL squad of the Krefeld Penguins for the first time by coach Butch Goring for a cup game in Hamburg . Pietta did not score any points, but was one of the best players on the ice, so that he came to five more DEL games during the season.
However, the attacker continued to play most of the season in the DNL, where he was further used in defense due to an oversupply in the storm and his more mature, defensively more responsible style of play, his good overview of the game. Ultimately, Daniel Pietta was the fifth best scorer of the young penguins and sixth best scorer in the league. Furthermore, as captain, he also led the DNL team to second place in the league, but the team was eliminated in the play-offs as a favorite in two games against the Kölner Junghaie .
For the 2004/05 season , Pietta was given a license for Füchse Duisburg from the 2nd Bundesliga by the Pinguinen , where he was able to increase his points average to almost one point per game, especially in the second half of the season, and ultimately with nine goals and could finish 19 points from 46 games.
DEL (since 2005)
For the 2005/06 season , the attacker finally got a permanent place in the squad with the Krefeld Penguins . With the Penguins , Pietta became one of the best German strikers in the DEL in the following years and was able to steadily improve his offensive statistics before completing his best-ever season as a professional in the 2009/10 season with 16 goals and 37 assists. In September 2011, Pietta extended its contract in Krefeld by three years.
In the 2013/14 season , Pietta together with his teammates Kevin Clark and Adam Courchaine formed the most attacking attacking formation in the league and scored a total of 48 points. In January 2015, a ten-year contract extension with the winger was announced in Krefeld, which is the longest contract term that has ever been negotiated in German ice hockey.
International
With the German junior national teams , Pietta took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2003 and 2004 and also contested the U20 Junior World Championship in 2006 with his home country . Against the background of his achievements in the club, the left-handed shooter was appointed to the A-squad of the German national team for the first time in November 2010 and played his first game in Germany's jersey as part of the Germany Cup . Pietta then took part in the World Championships in 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 and 2018 .
