- 1714: Alleged illegality of Venetian merchants leads to the declaration of war by the Ottoman Empire against the Republic of Venice . However, military operations in the Venetian-Austrian Turkish War did not begin until the summer of 1715.
- 1775: The American patriots defeat the British at the Battle of Great Bridge and then drive them out of Virginia .
