Andrew Birkin

Andrew Birkin (born December 9, 1945 in London ) is a British screenwriter and director .

Life

Andrew Birkin was one of the screenwriters of The Name of the Rose and Luc Besson's Joan of Arc . He also directed and wrote the screenplay for Salt on Our Skin in 1992 . In 1993 he received the award for best director at the Berlin Film Festival for the film Der Zementgarten with his niece Charlotte Gainsbourg in one of the leading roles. In 2005 he co-wrote and produced Perfume - The Story of a Murderer .

He made his debut as a director in 1981 with the short film Sredni Vashtar . For this he received an Oscar nomination and was also awarded a prize at the BAFTA Awards in the Best Short Film category.

Birkin is the brother of actress Jane Birkin .
