Dirk Klinkenberg
The Dutchman Dirk Klinkenberg (born November 15, 1709 in Haarlem ; † March 3, 1799 in The Hague ) was secretary of the Dutch government for 40 years: he became known as an amateur astronomer .
Klinkenberg was the discoverer of the comet Klinkenberg named after him (also C / 1743 X1 or Great Comet of 1744) and the comet C / 1762 K1. From 1759 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences in Paris. The asteroid (10427) Klinkenberg , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by CJ van Houten, I. van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar observatory , was named after him .
