Marcha Libertadora de 1819 ("March of Freedom of 1819") is a name for the struggle of the Republicans under Simón Bolívar against the royalists in South America, especially for the fighting in 1819.

As part of the South American War of Independence , the decisive battle for Greater Colombia took place on July 25, 1819 near the city of Paipa in the valley of the Río Sogamoso (a right tributary of the Río Magdalena ) between the Republicans (in retrospect: called patriots or insurgents depending on your point of view ) and the Spanish royalists held under Barreiro. Seeing a certain victory for the royalists, Barreiro withdrew his cavalry, which was ground up in an ambush. The Republicans won and from then on the morale of the royalist troops sank, Bolívar finally won the war.
