Río Sogamoso below the dam

The Río Sogamoso is a right tributary of the Río Magdalena , which flows through the department of Santander in northern Colombia . It has a length of about 116 (or 137) km and a catchment area of about 1,119 km².

The Sogamoso is created by the confluence of the Río Suárez , its left (western), and Río Chicamocha , its right (eastern) source river. Approx. The Sogamoso Dam is 62 km below the confluence (and approx. 75 km above the mouth) . The capital of Santander, Bucaramanga , is about 20 km east of the dam.

The Río Sogamoso flows into the Río Magdalena about ten kilometers north of the city of Barrancabermeja .
