Johann Ludwig von Eckardt also: Eckard, Eckhardt (born December 9, 1737 in Coburg ; † December 2, 1800 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Johann Ludwig was born as the son of the Council of Saxony-Coburg and secret archivist Johann Gottlieb Eckardt. From 1749 he attended the high school Casimirianum Coburg and matriculated on October 6, 1752 at the University of Jena . After completing his studies, he worked as a lawyer in Coburg from 1756 and became in 1756 in his hometown. In 1759 he became a doctor of law in Jena, was a member of the mining commission in 1777 and in 1778 he became a secret archivist in Weimar. For the latter task he was awarded the title of court and government councilor.

In 1783 he became the first professor of canon law at the Jena University, he was appointed secret councilor of Saxony-Weimar, he became an assessor at the court and Schöppenstuhl. In addition, he worked from 1783 as a deputy of the Weimar landscape and was ennobled in 1792 with the title of baron. In addition, Eckardt participated in the organizational tasks of the Salana. He was dean of the Faculty of Law a few times and, in the summer semester of 1787, rector of AlmaMater .

Eckardt was married three times. He concluded his first marriage with Anna Wilhelmine Pertsch. His second marriage was with Sophie Schultes. His third marriage was with Johanna Christiana Scheib (1728–1792). From the children we know:

  • The only son from his first marriage was Christoph Friedrich Sebastian von Eckart (born October 3, 1765 in Coburg, † April 9, 1801 in Jena) who worked as a doctor of law as a court lawyer in Jena.
  • The only son of the second marriage was Johann Theophil (Gottlieb) Wilhelm von Eckardt (* March 8, 1769 in Coburg; † March 14, 1800 in Jena) who worked from 1797 as a doctor of medicine, as a private lecturer and sub-director of the maternity hospital in Jena.
  • The daughter Elisabetha Henrietta Johanna von Eckardt (* around 1765 in Coburg; † December 5, 1842 in Jena) made a name for herself as a poet.She married in 1786 the taxic Reichspostmeister Paul Ludwig Ferdinand Eber (* Weimar; † 21. June 1796 in Karlsbad), in 1801 she concluded a second marriage with the private lecturer Johann Bernhard Vermehren (* 1774 in Lübeck; † November 29, 1803 in Jena) and the third marriage in 1804 with the Weimar professor of mathematics Johann Heinrich Voigt a.
  • The daughter Rosina Christina Eleonora von Eckardt (born September 11, 1779 in Coburg; † January 16, 1832 in Munich), married on April 6, 1790 with the professor of theology Johann Christoph Döderlein and had a second marriage on October 19, 1797 with Friedrich Immanuel Niethammer (born March 6, 1766 in Beilstein, † April 1, 1848 in Munich).
