Life
Döderlein was the son of pastor Johann Georg Döderlein († April 7, 1780) and his wife Adriana Sibylla Rücker. Educated by his father, he moved to the grammar school in his hometown, which was under the direction of Rector Georg Wilhelm Diez. He studied in Altdorf near Nuremberg from 1764 , then worked as a tutor and, in his twenty-second year, became a deacon in Windsheim on May 17, 1768. Here he devoted himself to the studies of the Church Fathers and was known for his Curae criticae et exegeticae . In 1772 he acquired a master's degree in Altdorf and was appointed to the university's third theological chair in the same year.
In 1773 he took over the position with the inaugural speech de Prophetis oratoribus and associated with it a pastorate as a deacon. In 1774 he acquired the degree of doctor of theology with the treatise de redemtione a potestate diaboli ut insigni Christi benefico . In Altdorf he was dean of the theological faculty three times and in 1780 the rector of the university. In September 1783 he accepted a call as second theological professor at the University of Jena and in 1784 became a councilor. He also participated in the organizational tasks of the Salina and was rector of the alma mater in the winter semesters of 1784 and 1790 . Doederlein was Old Testament exegete and theologian and representatives of neology .
Döderlein married Rosina Maria Merklein on June 5, 1771 in Windsheim († March 2, 1787 in Jena; born March 4, 1787 in Jena), the daughter of the builder and mayor of Windsheim Johann Georg Merklein. After her death, on April 6, 1790, he married Rosina Christina Eleonora von Eckardt (born September 11, 1779 in Coburg, † January 16, 1832 in Munich), the daughter of the Jena court advisor and professor Johann Ludwig von Eckardt. The children are known to Johann Gerhard Christoph Döderlein (born March 14, 1772 in Altdorf, enrolled in University of Jena on February 4, 1784), Maria Adriana Dorothea Barbara Döderlein (born July 13, 1774 in Altdorf; † August 18, 1774 ibid. ), Christian Theodor Friedrich Döderlein (born March 1, 1776 in Altdorf, enrolled at the University of Jena on February 4, 1784) and Johann Ludwig Christoph Wilhelm von Döderlein (1791–1863).
