Friedrich Alexander Kerst (born February 23, 1924 in Kralup an der Moldau , † December 9, 2010 in Munich ) was an Austrian actor and voice actor .

biography

Alexander Kerst completed an acting degree at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where he a. a. was trained by Fred Liewehr . After his first engagements at the Vienna Burgtheater and the Volkstheater (Vienna) , he came to the Münchner Kammerspiele via Kassel and Wuppertal in 1954 and was a member of the ensemble there from 1957 to 1960.

Further engagements followed at theater stages in Germany under the directors August Everding , Hans Schweikart , Karl-Heinz Stroux , Peter Beauvais , Hans Lietzau , Fritz Umgelter , in roles like Hector in William Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida , Templar in Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's Nathan the Wise , or the title roles in Goethe's Urfaust and Götz von Berlichingen at the Götzfestspiele Jagsthausen . In Vienna he founded the Small Theater in the Konzerthaus with Helmut Qualtinger and Michael Kehlmann .

Since 1952 he has worked in films, including Dawn , The Star of Africa , Dogs, Do You Want to Live Forever and My School Friend with Heinz Rühmann , and worked with film directors such as Robert Siodmak , John Frankenheimer and Frank Wisbar . At the same time he was seen in television games and series under the directors Falk Harnack , Rolf von Sydow , Michael Braun , Helmuth Ashley and Jürgen Roland . He also worked for radio and dubbing studios .

At Munich theaters he was seen in The Heiress of Henry James with Heidelinde Weis , GBShaw's Beloved Liar with Johanna von Koczian , Olympia with Christiane Hörbiger , or Gin Rummy with Maria Becker . In addition to his theater and television work, Alexander Kerst devoted himself to recitation programs and readings, e.g. B. Evenings with texts by Erich Kästner , Ludwig Thoma , Ovid , Eduard Mörike and Friedrich Schiller , which he a. a. for Bayerischer Rundfunk , ORF and Carl Hanser Verlag . The last television productions were 2004 Die Patriarchin with Iris Berben , Christoph Waltz , Sophie Rois , Ulrich Noethen and others in 2006 Silberhochzeit directed by Matti Geschonneck with Iris Berben, Gisela Schneeberger , Ulrich Noethen, Axel Milberg and Corinna Harfouch .

In addition, he lent his distinctive voice as a voice actor. a. Martin Landau ( Ed Wood ), Robert Mitchum (Go to Hell, Darling!) , Yves Montand ( Police Python 357 ) and Fernando Rey (Quintet) .

Alexander Kerst died after a long illness on December 9, 2010 in Munich at the age of 86. He found his final resting place in one of the urn walls in the Bogenhausen cemetery in Munich.

Alexander Kerst was the cousin of the Austrian baritone Paul Wolfrum (1943–1990).
