Christiane Hörbiger
Christiane Hörbiger (born October 13, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian - Swiss actress .
Life
Christiane Hörbiger is one of three daughters of the actor couple Attila Hörbiger (1896–1987) and Paula Wessely (1907–2000) and a niece of the actor Paul Hörbiger (1894–1981). Her sisters are Elisabeth Orth and Maresa Hörbiger . Christian Tramitz is her 2nd degree nephew, Mavie Hörbiger is her 2nd degree niece.
Like her two sisters, she attended the grammar school run by the sisters of the poor child Jesus in the Hofzeile in Vienna. At the age of 14, she moved from high school to a commercial school on the Vienna Belt. She successfully graduated from business school, but the pastry shop her parents had bought for her had meanwhile gone bankrupt. The parents could no longer ignore their daughter's desire to become an actress.
She made her debut in 1955 in the film The Major and the Bulls , directed by Eduard von Borsody . Then she began an acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, but broke it off after a few weeks when she received another film engagement. Private teachers, above all Alma Seidler , completed her training in acting, dancing and singing.
She made her theatrical debut in 1959 as Recha in Lessing's Nathan the Wise at the Burgtheater , which, however, was a failure. From 1960 to 1961 she played at the Städtische Bühnen Heidelberg , from 1961 to 1966 again in Vienna at the Burgtheater. One of her roles was the Inken Peters in Hauptmanns Before Sunset . Guest performances have taken her to the Münchner Kammerspiele (where she performed Luise in Kabale und Liebe ) and to the Salzburg Festival . In 1961 she played Lottchen in Raimund's Der Bauer als Millionär , and Antoinette Hechingen in Hofmannsthal's Der Schwierige . From 1969 to 1972 she was the fanatic in Salzburger Jedermann , in 1973 she played Marie in Shakespeare's Was ihr wollt , in 1976 Flora Baumscheer in Nestroy's Der Talisman and in 1980 the Genia Hofreiter in Schnitzler's Das weite Land . From 1967 to 1985 she was engaged at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . Important roles here were Elisabeth in Schiller's Maria Stuart , Kate in Spewack / Porter's Kiss me Kate , Dorine in Molières Tartuffe , Arkadina in Čechov's Die Möwe , the old woman in Ionesco's Die Stühle and Alice in Strindberg's Dance of Death .
From the mid-1980s, she worked increasingly, later exclusively for film and television, including many series (u. A. As a voice, for. Example, for The Twilight Zone , 1985) The role of the Countess of Guldenburg in the television series The legacy of Guldenburgs she made known to a wide audience in Germany, this success marked the start of her second career. Other series and films followed, including Schtonk! , which received an Oscar nomination for best foreign film. In connection with her trip to the Academy Awards, she starred in her only American film, For Parents Only .
In 2003 she was one of the founding members of the German Film Academy .
Christiane Hörbiger was married twice. After her first marriage to director Wolfgang Glück , which was closed in 1962 and divorced in 1967 , she married the Swiss journalist Rolf R. Bigler . The son Sascha Bigler (born July 19, 1968), whom she raised alone after the death of her husband, comes from this marriage . Sascha Bigler now lives in Los Angeles and works as a director. From 1984 until his death in 2016, she lived with her partner Gerhard Tötschinger , alternately in Vienna, Baden near Vienna and Zurich .
In 2008 Christiane Hörbiger published her autobiography I am the White Clown.

Christiane Hörbiger has been UNICEF ambassador for Austria since 2003 . On November 9, 2009, she gave the commemorative speech at the rally for the victims of racism and xenophobia in Wels.
