Life

Georg Markus worked for the cabaret artist Karl Farkas at the Simpl cabaret in Vienna for a year before he became a journalist and then a writer. His books and newspaper columns deal with historical topics, whereby he deals primarily with contemporary Austrian history. Markus' journalistic career began in 1970 in the Viennese daily Kurier , for which he has been working again since 2003. By 2018 he had authored more than 30 books, many of which were translated into multiple languages. Marcel Prawy called Markus “the great, unrivaled professor of austrology - not of astrology, but of austrology.” And Hugo Portisch judged: “It is astonishing that Georg Markus continues to bring to light new and exciting facets of history, but above all, how he does it: On the one hand with the necessary seriousness, but on the other hand also in such a way that his books become enjoyable time travel. "

In his Stories with History column , Markus writes historical reports for the Kurier newspaper . He caused a sensation when he discovered the grave robbery of Mary Vetsera in 1992 after the skeleton of Crown Prince Rudolf's lover was stolen from her crypt in Heiligenkreuz near Vienna in the night and fog . His series of articles published by Kurier in March 2009, in which he reported for the first time about the illegitimate son of John F. Kennedys with a native Austrian: Lisa Lanett, born in 1921 as Elisabeth Hortenau in Hinterbrühl near Vienna († 13. March 2014 in San Antonio / Texas), admitted in an interview with Georg Markus that towards the end of the Second World War he had a relationship with the future US President, who was born of their son Tony Bohler, who was born in 1945. He still lives in the USA today. Hundreds of newspapers and TV stations around the world took over the exclusive report from Georg Markus.

From March 2000 to March 2008, Markus designed and moderated the Ö1 series Das war's, memories of the 20th century in the ORF's RadioKulturhaus . From 2008 to 2013 he appeared as a narrator and conférencier in the StadtTheater Walfischgasse in programs he wrote: Best of Farkas & Co (2008/2009), The grandchildren of Aunt Jolesch (2011), When you laugh anyway (2012), News from the Aunt Jolesch (2013).
