Erika Pluhar (born February 28, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actress , singer and writer .

Life

Erika Pluhar is the daughter of Anna and Josef Pluhar, who worked as an administrative officer (including adjutant to SS group leader Otto Wächter ) in the Generalgouvernement during the Second World War . Her older sister is Brigitte King, her younger sister the painter and sculptor Ingeborg G. Pluhar .

She experienced the end of the World War as a refugee in Pfaffstätt , in a wooden house that is no longer standing right next to the cemetery. She danced for the first time to the “Countess” who was friends with her mother in the same place. At first she could only live with her aunt in or near Vienna.

After graduating from high school in 1957, she studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (graduated in 1959 with distinction) and then became an actress at the Burgtheater , where she was a member of the ensemble from 1959 to 1999.

Important roles included Luzie in Hermann Bahr's Das Phantom (1959), Ismene in Antigone (1961), Doña Angela in Calderón's Lady Kobold (1964), Amalia in Die Räuber (1965), Desdemona in Othello (1967), Queen in Grillparzer's Die Jüdin von Toledo (1968), Lyudmila in Babels Marija (1969), Queen in Don Carlos (1973), the title character in Maria Stuart (1974), Lady Milford in Cabal and Love (1975), Ruth in Harold Pinter's Homecoming ( 1977), the title character in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler (1978), Helene in Hofmannsthal's Der Schwierige (1978), Esther in Vitrac's Victor or the Children in Power (1978), Varvara in Gorkis Sommergäste (1979), Regine in Musil's Die Schwärmer ( 1981), Ranjewskaja in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard (1982), Katarina in Lars Norén's Demons (1985/1986), Natalja in Turgenev's A Month in the Country (1986) and Mother in Norén's Night, Mother of the Day (1991).

She has made guest appearances at the Münchner Kammerspiele (1973), the Bad Hersfeld Festival , the Bregenz Festival and the Jagsthausen Castle Festival , among others . After great success under several directors, especially at the time of Achim Benning , it was hardly occupied under the direction of Claus Peymann and decided against further work as an actress. In 2004 she returned to the theater stage at Wiener stadtTheater walfischgasse and in St. Pölten and played with Werner Schneyder in his dramatization of her novel Forgive me, is that the end of the line here?

Her first marriage to Udo Proksch (1934–2001) from 1962 to 1967 had daughter Anna Proksch (1961–1999), who suffocated from an asthma attack . Her son, the actor Ignaz Pluhar (* 1984 in Vienna), who lives with her in her Grinzing house, is actually the grandson of Sahrawi origin adopted by her daughter . Pluhar adopted him himself to spare him the turmoil surrounding the name “Proksch”. She documented Ignaz Pluhar's first visit to his home country Western Sahara in the film Sahara in mir (2012). - Udo Proksch, whose guilt Pluhar doubts to this day, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for sixfold murder. She entered into a second marriage in 1970 with André Heller . After separating from Heller in 1973 (the divorce did not take place until 1984), she was connected to Peter Vogel for a number of years, until his suicide in 1978 .

Her singing career began in the early 1970s. She initially interpreted hits from the 1920s and 1930s as well as songs by André Heller, Stephan Sulke and Wolf Biermann . Since the early 1980s she has only sung her own lyrics. Musical companions were and are António Victorino de Almeida , Peter Marinoff and Klaus Trabitsch . Pluhar has been writing since childhood. She published her first book in 1981.

Politically, it is considered close to the SPÖ . Among other things, she campaigns against right-wing extremism , including in 2010 on the occasion of Barbara Rosenkranz's candidacy for the office of Federal President .
