biography

Trabitsch grew up in a musical family, but taught himself to make music. To this day he cannot read music. At the age of 15 he was already active as a guitarist and singer in his uncle's farmer band, which played mainly at weddings and balls. At 17 he moved to Vienna and began his musical career as a street musician . There he got to know the members of his first band, Liederlich Spielleut , which he co-founded in 1980.

This formation caused a sensation primarily through modern arrangements of medieval and traditional songs and dances from German-speaking countries. Irish and Balkan melodies were added later and continue to shape his music to this day. Trabitsch toured all of Europe with the group for 10 years and gave hundreds of concerts and festival appearances. In 1990 he left the minstrel and turned to projects in the areas of blues , rebetiko and Yiddish music.

In Vienna, Trabitsch met the accordionist Otto Lechner , with whom he played jazz and blues. Elements of Austrian folk music have always been introduced. Trabitsch called his style "Kreko" music back then, that is, creative commerce. One result of the collaboration with Otto Lechner was the 1997 production of the Christmas carol CD "Still", which was very well received by the public and whose concert performances with the "Bethlehem All Stars" have filled Austrian concert halls every year in the run-up to Christmas. Classical Christmas carols are reinterpreted, whereby Trabitsch's love for Afro-Caribbean music, discovered in the 1990s, also found its influence.

On March 31, 1996, Trabitsch suffered a serious traffic accident after a concert, which left him with partial paralysis of the left hand. Despite this handicap , he continues to play the guitar.

Since the mid-1990s, Trabitsch has worked as an accompanist and composer with Erika Pluhar , Kurt Ostbahn and Richard Weihs , among others . In 2005 he released a CD with children's song processing under the title Butzemann . Trabitsch is also the author of children's plays.
