Otto Lechner
Otto Lechner (born February 25, 1964 in Melk ) is an Austrian accordion player and composer. Lechner has contributed to making the accordion popular again in Austria. His way of making music is shaped by many ethnic musical styles, jazz and other genres , and he often combines his music with literature, readings and theater.
Life
Lechner is the son of a transport company. He was severely visually impaired from birth, eventually went blind and decided against further operations at the age of fifteen. Lechner liked to attend and graduated from the Melk Abbey High School. One of his music teachers there was Franz Thürauer . A school friend was the current cabaret artist Josef Hader , with whom he later had many joint appearances. At the age of four he played the accordion in a tavern, later at weddings or with the tusks in the Wachau .
In the end he chose music as his profession, he heads the OJE (Otto's Jazz Ensemble), which also performs his compositions. He also performed with the accordion group Accordion Tribe , with Broadlahn and with the Vienna Raï Orchestra . The Bethlehem All Stars interpret Christmas carols in a world-musical way. He also performed with Iva Bittová , Georg Danzer , Max Nagl , Sainkho Namtchylak , Wolfgang Reisinger , Dhafer Youssef , Joe Zawinul and Sväng . Lechner gave the suggestion for the annual International Accordion Festival in Vienna, which was founded in 2000 by Friedl Preisl and which this year was expanded from small beginnings to a four-week program.
Lechner has lived in Vienna since 1987 and in Gars am Kamp in Lower Austria from 2007 with his partner Anne Bennent , a Swiss actress, singer and former Burgtheater actress. They have one son (* 2004). The couple met at a publishing party that neither of them originally wanted to attend. With her, he creates performances that combine literature and music.
