Sväng [ s'väη ] is a Finnish harmonica - Quartet .

history

The group was formed at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki when Eero Turkka needed a project for an exam in composition and improvisation. With Eero Grundström, another student at the academy, and Jouko Kyhälä, Finland's first graduate to receive a doctorate in harmonica, as well as the bass harmonica player Pasi Leino, he studied a suite that he composed and was based on Romanian folk music. Due to the great success of this project, the Sväng group ( Swedish : curve ) was founded in 2003 . The first international tours soon followed, and in 2005 the group's first CD, Sväng, was released . In 2007 Sväng was sent to the World Music Expo to represent Finland . In 2008 the group released their second CD, Jarruta .

music

Sväng's music has a wide range of styles. The original compositions and arrangements of traditional pieces are influenced by polka , country music , Finnish tango , ragtime , music of the Sinti and Roma and folk music of the Balkans as well as by jazz and rock. The electrically amplified sound, alienated with effect devices such as distortion, is an essential stylistic element and expands the expressive possibilities of the instruments.
