Marwan Abado

Marwan Abado (* 1967 in Beirut ) is an Austrian musician ( singing , oud , composition, lyrics) from the Middle East who now lives in Vienna.

Life

Abado was born into a Christian Palestinian family in a refugee camp in Beirut. After Abado migrated to Austria in 1985, he continued his musical training there on the short-necked oud with Asim Chalabi.

Abado has been giving concerts in Europe and the Arab world, but also in the USA and Cuba since 1987. His compositions are based on the classical form of representation of Arabic music. In 1994, Extraplatte released his debut album دواير = Circles = Kreise , which was followed by other albums such as Son of the South . With Peter Rosmanith the album مراكب = Marakeb was created in 2001 . In 2004 he released the album 's geht eh!' Together with Krzysztof Dobrek , Aliosha Biz, Roland Neuwirth and Alegre Corrêa . which was followed in 2005 by the CD Kabila .

Abado also worked with musicians such as Timna Brauer , Yair Dalal , Simone Pergmann, Franz Hautzinger , Kamilia Jubran, Otto Lechner , Elliott Sharp , Paul Gulda and André Heller . In 2003 he worked with young Israeli and Palestinian musicians at the Festival of Young Artists in Bayreuth. Together with his wife Viola Raheb , he published the Palestinian cookbook Time of the Figs .

Prizes and awards

Abado and his fellow musicians were chosen by the Austrian music magazine Concerto 2005 as the best artist in the world & folk category of the year 2005 for the CD 's goes anyway , and for the follow-up album Kabila 2006 as the second best musician in the same category. In 2008 he received the Federal Sign of Honor for Intercultural Dialogue from the Federal Minister for Education, Art and Culture.
