Franz Hautzinger

Franz Hautzinger (born March 11, 1963 in Tadten , Burgenland ) is an Austrian trumpeter specializing in jazz and improvised music .

Franz Hautzinger studied trumpet and composition at the Graz Music Academy (now: University of Music and Performing Arts Graz ) and at the Vienna Conservatory with Robert Politzer . From 1989 he taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts , and he also worked - musically influenced by Miles Davis ' modal jazz , then from Bill Dixon - at recording sessions of the label Extraplatte with bands like Mühlbacher etc., nouvelle cuisine and Striped Roses to Helge Hinteregger and Werner Dafeldecker too . During this time he also worked on projects with Martin Siewert and Burkhard Stangl as well as in the Berlin composer ensemble Zeitkratzer . In 1994 he recorded Zong of Se Boboolink in the duo ZOSB with Hinteregger (who experimented with samples and electronics) . In 1996 his debut album Bent was released in a quartet ; In 2000 he presented the solo album Gomberg , followed by Dachte Musik (2001), both on the Grob label . He also worked with Derek Bailey , Boris Hauf , Mia Zabelka , the Max Nagl Ensemble and the London Improvisers Orchestra . At the 2010 Jazz Festival in Saalfelden he appeared with Hayden Chisholm , William Parker and Tony Buck . Since 2013 he has also been on tour in a duo with clarinetist Isabelle Duthoit .

On the quarter-tone trumpet , Hautzinger has developed an extremely personal language over the years with the use of air noises, micro-tones and always sensitive handling of the musical form.
