geography

Tadten is the only place in the community.

history

Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Tétény be used. After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).

etymology

Most place names in Burgenland can be assigned to a language by place name researchers. Researchers believe that the name Tadten ("Teteny") comes from the Hungarian language.

The form of government of the conquering Hungarians was based on a politically ruling grand prince and a sacred ruler, the so-called " Kende ". The domains of the Hungarian princes were divided along the river. The right bank of the Danube between Budapest and Lake Neusiedl was awarded to the Kende Kurszan . He set up a summer residence in the lowlands east of the Neusiedlersee. In 904, Kurszan was murdered after meeting the Bavarians. As a result, the shoreline east of the Neusiedlersee fell back to Prince Árpád , who was ruling at the time . After his death and the assumption of power by the then reigning Prince Fajzs around 950, a new Kende was determined for the area east of Lake Neusiedl. His name was "Teteny". The name of today's place Tadten can therefore be traced back to the sacred ruler Teteny from the 10th century.

The village of Tadten was first mentioned in 1357 as "Tetun". This happened before the cathedral chapter in Raab (today's Győr), when it came to the expropriation of a man from "Tetun" and the expropriation of another man from Moson County . It is certain that these are Tadten because Tetun was also in Moson County.

The name of the village of Tadten was spelled differently over time. The main reason for the different spellings was the language they belong to. A distinction must be made whether the writer was Hungarian or German-speaking. The following variants are used:

  • Tetun 1357
  • Titin 1360
  • Thetes 1451
  • Thaton 1550
  • Taton 1570
  • Teten 1659
  • Teteny 1680
  • Taden 1786
  • Taaden 1808
  • Taaden 1857
  • Tadten 1857
  • Mosontétény 1909
  • Tadten 1922
