history

The community was first mentioned in documents in 1318. Like the whole of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary ( Moson County ) until 1920/21 . His first name is in Hungarian Vitézfelde (land of the warriors ), later Apátlan (fatherless), in an edition of the Wiener Zeitung of 1814 the place is mentioned as "Appetlohn". This then probably became today's German name.

After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, West Hungary was assigned to Austria in the Treaties of Saint-Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ). Apetlon has been a market town since 1991 (through VO 79 ).
