Zurndorf is a market town in the Neusiedl am See district in Burgenland in Austria . The Hungarian place name of the municipality is Zurány .
geography

history

The area has been settled for a long time, as evidenced by a grave from the Bronze Age and remains of Roman settlements.
Zurndorf was first mentioned in 1209 under the place name "Zaran" and was first granted market rights in 1399, which was granted in 1642 by Ferdinand III. was renewed.
During the Turkish Wars , the place was destroyed in 1529 and 1683.
Like the whole of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary ( Moson County ) until 1920/21 .
After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
Like many places in Burgenland, Zurndorf was a biconfessional congregation of Catholics and Protestants, so up until the 20th century there were around two elementary schools, one for each denomination. Historically, the population was made up of farmers, craftsmen and workers, who were also increasingly resident in certain districts or alleys. However, this classic population structure began to dissolve shortly after the Second World War .
From 1972 to 1990, the hamlet of Friedrichshof housed the community of Action Analysis Organization with Otto Muehl .
