Deutsch Jahrndorf (Hungarian: Németjárfalu , Slovak: Nemecké Jarovce ) is a municipality in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland in Austria with 619 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Geographical location
Deutsch Jahrndorf is the only place in the municipality. It lies in the border triangle of Austria, Hungary and Slovakia . The adjoining landscape around the village is mostly flat and characterized by agricultural fields; there are also numerous forest areas in which endangered species such as the great bustard have found themselves. A few kilometers outside the municipality there is a small canal of the Leitha , which is called "Mühlbach".
Deutsch Jahrndorf is the easternmost municipality in Austria and has therefore also been the easternmost point of the closed German-speaking area since 1945 . The western counterpart to this is, depending on the definition, the municipality of Selfkant in Germany , Lontzen in Belgium or Rambruch in Luxembourg .
history
Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Angol-Járfalu be used. The place bears his name German Jahrndorf due to its mainly German-speaking population, as opposed to today in the Slovakia lying neighboring community Croatian Jahrndorf ( slowak. Jarovce , clothes. Horvátjárfalu ), which until World War mainly by Croats inhabited.
After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded state of Burgenland since 1921.

Economy and Infrastructure
The infrastructure corresponds to that of a community of this size. Until a few years ago there was an earthworks in Deutsch Jahrndorf, which was the largest operation in the village until it was finally closed after many demonstrations and negotiations because of the odor nuisance from the composting plant.
Since 2004 there has been a mobile home park and overnight accommodation facility in Deutsch Jahrndorf , from which numerous visitors annually use the town's cycle and hiking trails. Deutsch Jahrndorf is the starting point of the Burgenland long-distance hiking trail , and the Eastern Austrian border trail also leads through the village.
