Dieter Lattmann (2006)

Dieter Lattmann (* 15. February 1926 in Potsdam ; † 17th April 2018 in Munich ) was a German writer and politician of the SPD and co-founder of the artists' social and Künstlersozialabgabe .

Life

Dieter Lattmann was born the son of the officer Hans Lattmann (1894–1980). Lattmann's grandfather was the Volkish politician and member of the Reichstag, Wilhelm Lattmann , and his uncles included the officer Martin Lattmann , one of the leading figures on the National Committee for Free Germany . The politician Klaus Lattmann was a brother.

Dieter Lattmann was called up for military service in 1944 - in the late phase of the Second World War - at the age of eighteen, but was soon demoted because of " defeat of military strength ". After the war he completed an apprenticeship as a publishing bookseller at the Bärenreiter-Verlag in Kassel from 1946 to 1947 . At the same time he began to write, initially newspaper articles. Between 1947 and 1959 he worked for various well-known book publishers in various positions. He then devoted himself to writing short stories, novels and essays . From 1969 to 1974 he was co-founder and chairman of the Association of German Writers , from 1972 to 1980 a member of the German Bundestag , where he campaigned for artists' social insurance, for the SPD in the constituency of Kempten (Allgäu) , and from 1977 to 1985 he was a member of the Presidium of the Goethe Institute .

Dieter Lattmann stood up for the union organization of writers and was active in the peace movement. The integration of the economic beneficiaries of services in the pension financing of the legally independent service providers (artists, publicists) through the artist's social security contribution is largely due to Dieter Lattmann and Herbert Ehrenberg . Lattmann's literary works are primarily set in post-war Germany . Since 1967 he was a member of the PEN Center Germany . Dieter Lattmann lived in Munich . From 2011 he lived with his wife in the Augustinum senior center in Munich, where he died in 2018 at the age of 92.
