Zeitkratzer is an ensemble of improvisation and new music based in Berlin . The formation, made up of international soloists, has been playing together since 1997. She has appeared at numerous European festivals and has released albums that have received critical acclaim.
The ensemble, whose musicians are not only trained in new and improvised music , but also have skills in the areas of noise , pop music and folklore , has attracted attention with unorthodox projects since it was founded. These include his adaptation of Schönberg's Pierrot Lunaire , Lou Reed's guitar feedback piece Metal Machine Music , two albums on which it deals with folk music and several albums that contain reinterpretations of compositions of electronic music . In addition, the group, which can also play electrically if necessary, interpreted works by Karlheinz Stockhausen , John Cage , James Tenney , La Monte Young , Alvin Lucier or Iannis Xenakis . The formation also performs with musicians from different camps such as Keiji Haino , Ray Kaczynski , Jim O'Rourke , Merzbow , Christian Lillinger or Terje Rypdal and Palle Mikkelborg .
