Jim O'Rourke
Jim O'Rourke (born January 18, 1969 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ) is an American experimental musician , record producer , film composer and short film director .

O'Rourke's work is among others influenced by jazz , classical music , noise , drone and guitar - rock . With the exception of classical music, his own releases affect practically every genre.
In addition to his mostly much more experimental solo work, he was and is also active in various bands and side projects. He released two albums as Loose Fur together with Jeff Tweedy and Glen Kotche from Wilco . In turn, O'Rourke produced the 2004 album A Ghost Is Born for Wilco , for which he received the Grammy Award in the “Best Alternative Music Album” category. He was a member of Mimir, a project by Christoph Heemann , his brother Andreas Martin (both also known as Deer Not On the Sofa ), and Edward Ka-Spel . He also collaborated with Mats Gustafsson's free jazz band Fire !, with whom he released the album Unreleased? recorded.
Together with David Grubbs , O'Rourke ran the Gastr del Sol project . Between 1999 and 2005 he was a member of Sonic Youth , where he played bass and guitar and was responsible for the recordings. He left the band to focus on his work as a short film director, but continues to work with individual members of the band, particularly Thurston Moore .
As a film composer he was involved in 2002 in the film Love Liza and in 2007 in Kōji Wakamatsu's United Red Army .
Jim O'Rourke now lives in Tokyo .
