Staalplaat is a Dutch - German independent label based in Amsterdam and Berlin . Staalplaat was founded in 1982 by Geert-Jan Hobijn as a platform for “new and experimental music”. The label mainly releases music from the industrial and noise genres . Staalplaat operates the sublabels Container, ERS, God Factory, Hond In De Goot, Microwave Recordings, Mort Aux Vaches and Open Circuit. More than 300 publications have appeared since the label was founded.

As part of the Sonambiente 1996, a Berlin branch was opened in Haus Schwarzenberg in Berlin-Mitte. Staalplaat has been running a record and book store in Neukölln since 2008 .

The most important artists who publish on Staalplaat include Muslimgauze , Hafler Trio , Zoviet France , Asmus Tietchens , Esplendor Geométrico , Deutsch Nepal , Ryoji Ikeda , Kapotte Muziek , Massimo , Lustmord , 386 DX and Francisco López .

The releases of the albums of the anti-Zionist project Muslimgauze and the presentation of his music z. B. at club transmediale 2007 was criticized by various reviewers such as Markus Ströhlein in the weekly newspaper Jungle World .
