Jeffrey Scot "Jeff" Tweedy (born August 25, 1967 in Belleville , Illinois ) is an American songwriter and band leader from Chicago . He was best known with his band Wilco .

Life

Tweedy was also together with Jay Farrar founding member of the alternative country band Uncle Tupelo the Member and alternative country -Allstarband Golden Smog , u. a. with Gary Louris of the Jayhawks , band members from Soul Asylum and the Replacements . Together with Jim O'Rourke and Glenn Kotche, he also runs the band project Loose Fur .

Since 2010 he has been producing albums and writing songs for the blues and soul singer Mavis Staples .

Together with his son Spencer, he also founded the band Tweedy , which released their debut album Sukierae in 2014 .

Remarks

  • The German translation (translated by Mark Kanak) has been available since September 2006, the volume of poems Kopf erwachsen (original title: Adult Head ), published by loudspeaker publisher in the series coast2üste.
  • In connection with the Wilco album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot , Tweedy led a long battle with the major label Warner Music Group for the band's artistic freedom, which delayed the release by a year and was ultimately decided on the terms of the band.
  • Following the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot , Tweedy went into drug withdrawal for several months after publicly admitting his addiction to stimulants .
