Uncle Tupelo was an alternative country band from the 1990s. She combined punk and rock music with elements of country music .
Band history
The American band was formed in 1987 in Belleville , Illinois . Founding members were Jay Farrar ( guitar , harmonica , vocals ), Mike Heidorn ( drums ), and Jeff Tweedy ( bass , guitar, harmonica, vocals). Other members were Ken Coomer (drums), Max Johnston ( banjo , dobro , fiddle , mandolin , steel guitar ) and John Stirratt (bass). Farrar and Tweedy were the leading figures in the band who shared the songwriting.
After Farrar unexpectedly left the band, they broke up completely in May 1994. Tweedy formed the band Wilco , and Farrar Son Volt .
All four albums were reissued in 2003 by Columbia / Legacy and Rhino Entertainment.
