Hayden Chisholm (born May 27, 1975 in Otahuhu near Auckland ) is a New Zealand jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and composer.

Chisholm grew up in New Plymouth . He studied music in Switzerland, Greece, India, Yugoslavia, Japan and finally in Cologne , a. a. with Frank Gratkowski . Here he was in the 1990s through his collaboration a. a. known with Nils Wograms Root 70 , which continues to the present (2011). Since 1995 he has toured India, Europe, Africa and Latin America, among others with John Taylor . He released his debut album Circe in 1996.

Since 2002 Chisholm has been working with the action artist Rebecca Horn , for whose installations Light imprisoned in the belly of the whale (2002), Spiriti di Madreperla (2002) and Moon Mirror (2003) he composed the music. He works with Marcus Schmickler on the Amazing Daze project and, together with Gareth Lubbe and Claudio Bohórquez, forms the improvisation trio DOHA , with whom he also extends Root 70 to his The Embassadors . With Views of Hearts , the first box with 13 CDs was released in 2013, which are also available individually; Cusp of Oblivion followed in 2016 . He also worked as a saxophonist, clarinetist and occasionally keyboardist on albums by Underkarl around Sebastian Gramss , Antonis Anissegos , David Sylvian , Burnt Friedman , Jaki Liebezeit and others.

Chisholm was the protagonist in the documentary Sound of Heimat - Deutschland singt (2012) by Arne Birkenstock and Jan Tengeler. Because of his "unique sound aesthetics" he was awarded the SWR Jazz Prize in 2013 . In 2015 he worked in Moers as an “improviser in residence”.
