Gentle Giants is an album by the Slowfox trio , consisting of Hayden Chisholm on alto saxophone, Philip Zoubek on piano and Sebastian Gramss on double bass. The recordings were made from September 12 to 14, 2016 in the Schlossbergsaal of the SWR studio in Freiburg; the album, co-produced by Südwestrundfunk , was released on Traumton Records on May 5, 2017.

After The Wood (Jazzwerkstatt 2014), Gentle Giants is the second album by the trio founded in 2013, whose musicians had previously worked together in numerous projects and formations (including in the Cologne Multiple Joy (ce) Orchestra ).

The individual titles of the album - read individually - make no sense, but strung together a sentence which, according to Sebastian Gramss , is attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche (although his authorship is not certain): And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music (German: if you do n't hear the music, you think the dancers are insane ).

The albums received consistently positive reviews; "The Trio Slowfox lives from the musical sound language of the German double bass player Sebastian Gramss, which is neither intrusive nor vocal, but simply puts the soul-caressing reserve from the background to the front," said the jazz magazine Jazzthetik about the music of Slowfox.

After a concert in May 2017 at which the album was presented, Frank Schindelbeck wrote, “Three individual experts bundle their creative heads in this formation and create an extraordinarily dense trio music that is as elegant as it is highly complex.
