Jochen Rückert, mostly spelled Rueckert (born May 13, 1975 in Cologne ) is an originally German jazz drummer with US citizenship and permanent home since 1995 in New York City .

Live and act

The brother of the pianist Thomas Rückert began to practice drums at the age of six. In 1996 he won the Blue Note Jazzsearch with the Trio Dreiklang and the European Jazz Competition at the Leverkusen Jazz Days with the Anke Helfrich Trio. In 2000 he received the support award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for music . Since then he has worked on over 120 albums and worked with musicians and bands such as the Marc Copland Trio, Nils Wogram & Root 70, the Kurt Rosenwinkel Group, the Mark Turner Band, the Melissa Aldana Crash Trio, Sam Yahel Trio, with Chris Cheek , John Abercrombie , Ignaz Dinné , Matt Penman , Kenny Werner , Dave Liebman , Till Brönner , Joachim Kühn , Anke Helfrich, Bill McHenry , John McNeil , Ron Carter , the WDR and the NDR big band , the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos , Seamus Blake , Guillermo Klein and Los Guachos and also Madeleine Peyroux .

In 1993 he traveled to New York City for the first time , where he has lived since 1995. In 1998 he released his debut album Introduction on Jazzline (with Hayden Chisholm , Ben Monder , Kurt Rosenwinkel , Chris Potter and Johannes Weidenmüller ). With İlhan Erşahin and Juni Booth he recorded the album Peace Now (2008) in the trio I Led Three Lives .

Rueckert has been leading his own quartet, for which he composes, with Mark Turner , Lage Lund and Matt Penman since 2011 . The band tours several times a year. With her he released in 2011 on Pirouet Records , Somewhere, Meeting Nobody . We Make the Rules followed in 2014 at Whirlwind Recordings . His album Charm Offensive was released in 2016 by Pirouet Records .

In addition to his work as a jazz musician, Rückert also worked with rock bands such as Bonnie Lundy and Seems So Bright and in the field of electronic music with Marcus Schmickler , Jochen Bohnes and Burnt Friedman .

He has been programming, mixing and producing electronic music under the alias "Wolff Parkinson White" since 2005.

Since 2008 Rueckert has published a series of e-books with the title Read the Rueckert , which document his life in the form of photos in every hotel room and short stories about particularly banal days of travel and other intrigues of the traveling jazz musician.
