Bill McHenry (* 1972 in Blue Hill , Maine ) is an American jazz - tenor saxophonist .

Live and act

McHenry attended Michigan's Interlochen Arts Academy from 1986 , and from 1990 he studied at the New England Conservatory of Music with George Garzone , Jimmy Giuffre and John McNeil . In 1992 he moved to New York, where he played on the local jazz scene. In 1996 he stayed in Barcelona , where he worked with the pianist Ben Waltzer ( Jazz Is Where You Find It ). After his return he presented his debut album Rest Stop in 1997 , on which the guitarist Ben Monder participated. The music on the album was heavily influenced by Pat Metheny's ECM album 80/81 with Dewey Redman . McHenry has also worked with Ethan Iverson , Rebecca Martin , John Stetch , Reid Anderson , Chris Lightcap , Guillermo Klein and Gerald Cleaver . In 2012 McHenry worked with his own quartet, consisting of Orrin Evans , Eric Revis and Andrew Cyrille ( La Peur du Vide , Sunnyside).
