George Garzone (* 23. September 1950 in Boston ) is an American jazz - saxophonist (tenor and soprano saxophone) and music teacher .

After attending Berklee College of Music, Garzone performed briefly with Woody Herman and with pop singer Tom Jones . In 1972 he founded the jazz trio The Fringe , with whom he performs regularly in Boston and recorded several albums. In addition, he worked a. a. with Jamaaladeen Tacuma , with whom he went on a European tour, with Danilo Pérez , Joe Lovano , Jack DeJohnette , Rachel Z and John Patitucci . Since its inception, he was a member of George Schuller's formation Orange Then Blue , but was also part of George and Ed Schuller's band The Schull Boys . He also recorded with George Russell , Bob Moses , Mike Mainieri and Ingrid Jensen .

Garzone teaches jazz a. a. at Berklee College of Music , New England Conservatory , Longy School of Music , New York University, and New School University Jazz and Contemporary Program . He uses the "Triadic Chromatic Approach". His best-known students are Joshua Redman , Branford Marsalis , Teodross Avery , Luciana Souza , Mark Turner , Donny McCaslin , Doug Yates and Danilo Pérez .
